where the art department sets the basic foundation for students to be successful in art classes at K.O.H.S. Using the elements and principles of design as the cornerstone, the students are required to master a variety mediums. The study of a culturally diverse group of artists is incorporated throughout the year. After studying the German Expressionist Kathe Kollowitz, my Art I. classes completed an edition of expressionist self - portraits using linoleum printmaking as the medium. Georgia O'Keeffe & Edward Degas inspired the striking compositions & abstractions created in the "western" still - life using prismacolors as well as the "table" still - life using watercolors. O'Keeffe also inspired our watercolor still-life paintings and our popcorn paintings. Maria Martinez and her native American pottery inspired our ceramic pieces. Finally, M.C. Escher's prints with unusual perspectives gave us a new view of architecture as we drew 1, 2, & 3 point halls inside our school.
