COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY

• Students are not limited on the number of visitors they may invite to the commencement ceremony.

• A professional photographer will be provided to take your picture. Parents and friends are not allowed on the floor of the pavilion.

• Immediately after the recessional, students will be directed back to the gym where they will receive their diplomas.
  i
• Caps and gowns are now purchased and are the property of the students. After the tossing of hats at the end of the ceremony, you may wish to retrieve a hat near you. Do not leave your line. You may wish to not throw your hat.

• Wear hats with mortar board flat – not tilted to one side or to the rear.
  i
• Begin with tassel on left side, move to right when told to do so.
  i
• Boys will remove mortar board during the National Anthem, prayer, and pledge. They will then replace mortar board on head and fix tassel. Girls DO NOT remove hats.

• Be seated upon returning to your seat after receiving the diploma cover.
  i
• Graduates arriving late should report to the assistant principal by the registrar to be seated. Graduates will be seated at the appropriate time.

• Students should refrain from talking during the ceremony.

• Students are to take their cues from the floor marshals in lining up to walk across the stage.
  i
• Inappropriate actions such as gesturing, jumping, throwing of beach balls, blowing horns, or anything that could take away the focus from your classmates or the overall purpose of the ceremony WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. Diplomas could be withheld for such actions for a determined period of time with a number of community service hours additionally assigned.

• Upon exiting the pavilion, floor marshals will lead the graduates back to the gymnasium.

1. The processional will begin PROMPTLY at noon. You must be in the proper positions in the tunnels under the Hofheinz Pavilion stands at that time!

2. Walk directly behind the person in front of you and as close as possible without stepping on the other student’s feet.

3. Do not allow large distances to develop between you and the person in front of you.
   i
4. Pair off with the person who comes from the opposite tunnel whether it is the person you practiced with or not.
   i
5. Proceed to the proper row and seat assignment and remain standing until all graduates are in place.

The recessional will begin immediately following the benediction. Remain in your place of order at all times and follow instructions from the floor marshals. Each row will wait until the preceding row is clear before beginning its march.

1. During the ceremony, students will be handed the diploma cover only.

2. Immediately following the commencement ceremony, seniors will report to the gymnasium where they will pick up their diplomas.

3. Vacate the Hofheinz facilities and the parking lot so that the next school can begin the preparations for their ceremony.

4. If you will be completing your graduation requirements during the summer, you will need to pick up your diploma at Klein Oak. Diplomas are not mailed. Please call prior to pick-up.
